The exceptional German athlete Britta Steffen grows up with the enthusiasm for swimming and a rigid training schedule. Based on her biography and with a special focus on her sudden career end Jana Vetten's movement theater examines the prevailing pressure to perform within our society.

The premiere of Because in 2015 marks the beginning of the Night Shift Program of the Mainz State Theater, which enables a monthly performance of independent projects by theater members from all artistic fields.
